In retail from 1990-2003, the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES) was one of the most popular console ever sold and revolutionized the gaming world in the '90s. This 2020 edition package is designed to accompany the recent SNES relaunch campaign. Leveraging the '90s nostalgia, the new package focuses on the importance of looking backward in order to move forward. Using graphic language inspired by the low-fi games, the new SNES Classic Relaunch is sent as a warning from the future–a world of progressive technology, to remind us why we should look to return to the basics.
During research and design exploration phase, one problem we looked closely at was the lack of purpose to gaming packaging–most consoles don't have a home, it's usually difficult to re-packaged it back inside the original container. We approached this by designing the box to be a slide-out container, one that not only provides a stable base for the console as you play but also allows players to organize wires effectively.
